The Royal Wedding Menu


The wedding of the year needs a pretty impressive menu to go with it and it seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn't disappoint. From their flower strewn cake to champagne macarons, there was plenty of foodie fabulousness going on at their celebrations on May 19th 2018. Kensington Palace shared some of the details so pull up a chair and let your mouth water as we celebrate the Royal Wedding Menu.


The wedding reception, hosted by the Queen, was held at St. George's Hall, Windsor . Over 600 guests who had just seen Harry and Meghan tie the knot were treated to a summer spread that broke the royal wedding mould. For rather than sitting down to a formal wedding breakfast, the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their friends and family enjoyed canapes and bowl food.

Let's salivate over the canapes first. Royals and celebs got to pick from a line up that had something for everyone....

  • Scottish Langoustines wrapped in Smoked Salmon with Citrus Crème Fraiche
  • Grilled English Asparagus wrapped in Cumbrian Ham
  • Garden Pea Panna Cotta with Quail Eggs and Lemon Verbena
  • Heritage Tomato and Basil Tartare with Balsamic Pearls
  • Poached Free Range Chicken bound in a Lightly Spiced Yoghurt with Roasted Apricot
  • Croquette of Confit Windsor Lamb, Roasted Vegetables and Shallot Jam
  • Warm Asparagus Spears with Mozzarella and Sun-Blush Tomatoes
Let's do royal bowl food now. Harry and Meghan's reception featured three selections on the savoury side...

  • Fricassee of Free Range Chicken with Morel Mushrooms and Young Leeks
  • Pea and Mint Risotto with Pea Shoots, Truffle Oil and Parmesan Crisps
  • Ten Hour Slow Roasted Windsor Pork Belly with Apple Compote and Crackling
And if anyone had any room left for something sweet then there was plenty to choose from. First of all, the pudding picks...

  • Champagne and Pistachio Macaroons
  • Orange Crème Brûlée Tartlets
  • Miniature Rhubarb Crumble Tartlets
And then there was the cake. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had already shared plenty of details of their unusual selection, created by Claire Ptak, and the official Kensington Palace Instagram gave us an up close and personal look at the creation on the wedding day itself. The lemon and elderflower sponge was covered in real flowers and set on a gold cake stand. It was baked with elderflower syrup made from the trees on the Queen's estate at Sandringham and included an Amalfi lemon curd and elderflower buttercream, all covered in Swiss meringue buttercream.



Just in case you're wondering, there was champagne (of course) to wash it all down and more fizz at the evening reception which was hosted by the Prince of Wales at Frogmore House. Just too scrummy for words.
