Prince Henrik goes home

More sad news from Denmark this afternoon as the Royal Court announced that Prince Henrik had left hospital for his home at Fredensborg Castle where he will spend his last days. It follows a week in which the prince's health took a turn for the worse.

Henrik, who was admitted to hospital in January, has been in a serious condition for some time now. He was diagnosed with dementia last year and came home from a stay in Egypt last month because he was poorly. He was admitted to hospital with a lung infection and his condition worsened late last week. His wife, Queen Margrethe, has cancelled all her upcoming engagements while their elder son, Crown Prince Frederik, flew home from the Winter Olympics in Seoul to be with his family.

In recent days, Henrik has been visited many times by family and friends with his siblings also arriving from their homes outside Denmark to be with him. The simple and sad statement from the Royal Household today confirmed that Henrik is now at Fredensborg as that is where he wishes to spend his final days. His family is with him along with the good wishes of many through Denmark and around the world.
