In the end, it was the bride who sorted things out. Meghan Markle has put an end to days of uncertainty that were beginning to cast a shadow over the Royal Wedding by issuing a statement confirming that her father, Thomas Markle, won't now be attending. He had been due to walk his daughter down the aisle of St. George's Chapel, Windsor on May 19th but will be missing because of unspecified health problems.

Meghan's first solo statement, short and to the point, came after days of speculation that Mr Markle would then would not then would again attend. Meghan said that her father won't be there and needs time to focus on his health. And she repeated that she and Harry are looking forward to sharing their wedding with everyone in just a few days' time.

Not long afterwards, the bride arrived in Winsdor with her groom for the rehearsals. In the brief glimpse we got of Meghan she looked very calm and very composed and very excited. As she should be.

The rehearsals have been going on all day with practices for the carriage ride and procession and lots of excited people catching a glimpse as royal wedding fever takes hold. Later on, we may get our first clue to the dress - royal brides have been known to walk out of rehearsals with sheets around them instead of a train so that might be a hint of its length and style. We might also catch a glimpse of someone practising the walk down the aisle with Meghan. Whoever it is, or whether she goes solo, let's hope this bride gets to enjoy her build up and her special day.
