Princess Eugenie hinted at her favourite girl's name almost ten years before her daughter, Adelaide, was born

Princess Eugenie dropped a major hint about her favourite girl's name almost a full decade before she and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their first daughter. And she did it in a very public way - on her wedding day.

Queen Adelaide: meet the unassuming royal who helped change history

Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen married William, Duke of Clarence on July 11th 1818 in a discreet ceremony at Kew. In fact, it was so discreet, this royal bride didn't even get the day to herself. Her wedding was a double celebration with her groom's brother also saying 'I do' at the same time. Adelaide was easily the least showy of the four protagonists that day. But she kept on keeping on and ended up as Queen of England.

Queen Adeliza: how one of the oldest royal names of all was first used by a Queen of England

Many royal names are so well known we reel them off without even thinking. Elizabeth, Mary, Anne and Catherine abound in royal history. But others are less usual. As Adelaide makes a reappearance as a royal name, thanks to the choice of Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, for their third child, a glance at the history books shows it's got a long and interesting story to tell. Queen Adelaide, wife of King William IV, is thought to be an inspiration for Princess Eugenie. But a variant of the name was first used by a Queen of England over 900 years ago. Here is the first queen to bring this unusual name into the top orbit. Meet Adeliza, Queen of England.

Queen Elizabeth II created this tiara and it's only beautiful up close

I have a confession to make. I have finally found the beauty in one of the most famous royal jewels of the 20th century. The aquamarine tiara created in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II has never been a favourite but now that the chance to see it up close has come around, the real prettiness of the piece is obvious.

The Royal 1926: a very royal Christmas comes to a close

On January 6 1926, the papers reported that King George V and Queen Mary would be staying at Sandringham through the early part of the year but that their Christmas festivities were over. And they had said farewell to some rather regal guests as their holidays ended. For they had spent the season with the King and Queen of Norway.

The Royal 1926: a brief line that announced history

The royal 1926 began quietly with King George V and Queen Mary at Sandringham, surrounded by their family. The newspapers reported, as the year got under way, that the Duke of York ad gone hunting with his brother, the Prince of Wales, while the Duchess of York had returned to her new London home at Curzon Street. And then....

The Royal 1926: the year that changed everything

A century ago, the Royal Family welcomed a baby who would change everything. No one knew on the day she was born that the whole future of the Monarchy would not only rest on her shoulders but be steered by her to a place of safety it had perhaps never known before. The arrival of Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, on April 21 1926, was a family celebration that hid a turning point in royal history. Through the year, I'll be looking back at the Royal Family in 1926 as it lived a year that would alter its very existence even though it didn't know it at the time.

Queen Elizabeth II will be front and centre for the Royal Family in 2026 - here's why

The year 2026 promises to be a big one for the Royal Family. After a time of change in 2025, these coming twelve months will see them in the spotlight more than ever with big events already planned and others already rumoured. In the midst of it all will be one, very special and rather poignant moment. For in April 2026, the Royal Family will mark 100 years since the birth of Queen Elizabeth II.
