The kings, queens, princes and princesses who signed a very historic document
Your average marriage certificate has two witnesses. Sometimes there are four, you might creep up to five or six but when you're a queen in waiting and your wedding is the promise of guaranteeing a royal dynasty, things are somewhat different.
The law requires two witnesses, who can hear and understand what is being said, to sign the register. If the couple try to deny the marriage later, they could be called on in court to verify what they heard take place.
The queen who watched silently as her hopes for a throne were fulfilled
Norman Hartnell made a lot of frocks for the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten on November 20th 1947. But while he was no doubt sweating over making the bride's gown perfect and ensuring that her mum looked marvellous in another of his creations, the outfit that may have caused most fear was the one he made for Queen Mary. The Queen's granny was nothing if not formidable. Furthermore, just a decade before she had played a crucial part in securing the Monarchy when her eldest son, Edward VIII, abdicated. The bride was the hope for a throne that Mary had battled to protect. So this was no easy commission. Here's how Hartnell helped create the perfect granny of the bride....

The unknown man who briefly kept a secret for a Queen of England
He was among the only people outside a royal inner circle who knew the answer to a question everyone was asking and on a chilly winter's day he, briefly, became rather famous for that very reason. And given that the person who shared that secret with him was the always formidable Prince Philip, it's perhaps little wonder that he kept it. That's a very good reason to stay quiet.

What the Queen Mother wore to Queen Elizabeth's wedding
All eyes might be on the bride on her big day but there's one other person feeling the style pressure. The mother of the bride. Not only is she seeing her little girl begin a whole new chapter of her life, she's got to have a hat that could stop traffic or no one is going home truly happy. That was never going to be a problem at the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II on November 20th 1947. We all know how her mum loved a hat. And on the day her dynasty made more history, this Queen Elizabeth was more than ready for her close up.

The Duchess of Gloucester takes on important role for Queen Camilla
The Duchess of Gloucester has led royal commemorations at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. For almost a century, simple wooden crosses bearing a single poppy each have been planted at the church to remember those lost in conflict. It's an important royal tribute at the start of the period of Remembrance.
