Elizabeth the Great

In less than forty eight hours time a magnificent piece of royal history will unfold before our very eyes. Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, becomes our longest reigning monarch ever. She overtakes all before her and carves her name in the history books for all time. It will be many years before her record is beaten and although she herself wants to keep the event quiet, excitement is mounting across the country for this very special moment of history.

Elizabeth II, Queen of England

And it is good that it is for it is another chance to reflect on the amazing achievements of the woman born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York, the niece of a feted heir to the throne who was ended up wearing the crown and who continued the work of her father and grandfather in turning her country's monarchy into one of the most stable and successful around.

The last sixty three years have brought many challenges but now, as she stands on the brink of history, the universal opinion is that the Queen has been superb at the role she inherited by chance and continues to carve a path that many admire. This week is one of almost awe inspiring history as we celebrate the achievements of Elizabeth the Great.
