Five monochrome moments for Letizia

The Queen of Spain has appeared in public again after her summer holidays and Letizia went black and white for the occasion. She chose a favourite monochrome skirt with white blouse for a series of audiences alongside her husband and it's not the only time in recent months that this queen has kept the colour out of her outfit. Here are five Letizia monochrome moments.

1. Ending summer in stripes

It's not the first time we've seen this simple but effective outfit from the queen consort of Spain. In fact it's now hit half a dozen public appearances since its debut in 2014 and it's still going strong. The black and white skirt was teamed with a crisp white shirt which looked very back to school and the cream shoes were another simple addition to this old favourite.

2.  Magical marbling

Another old favourite has been coming out of Letizia's wardrobe on  a regular basis. Her black and white Hugo Boss dress with marbling effect down the front has been worn on several occasions over the past few years. In fact, the same dress has been donned by other royals and other guests at events the queen has worn it for but Letizia is staying faithful to it. It was last seen in July on a visit to the International Schools of Music and there's a good chance we'll see it again before 2015 is out.

3. Look at me trousers

Some things look great on the hanger but just don't work. Letizia's black and white trousers are a perfect example. In fact they might not have looked great on te hanger as they looked faintly ridiculous on but we've all bought things we weren't sure about and ploughed on regardless. Inexplicably, the Queen of Spain has chosen to wear this set of trousers more than once. They are definitely black and white and that's as kind as anyone can be. Last seen in June this year let's hope they're made of material too thin for the winter months.

4. Super stylish, super sleek

Much more successful is another black and white dress with feature centre panel. The slim fitting creation was last worn to an audience in May and although the shoes ruined an almost perfect outfit, this monochrome moment is one well worth repeating.

5. The talked about tiara

The diamond and pearl tiara she had on her head had been talked about so much before its appearance that it was always going to grab attention on its debut. The bespoke creation, given to Letizia in 2009 by her husband but not seen until this April, divided opinion as did the black and white print evening outfit she wore it with. In all honesty, the dress was too simple for the occasion - the 75th birthday of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark - and the overall effect was slightly washed out. But it was proof, if any was needed, that this year Letizia has been very much black and white.
