Well, no one saw that one coming. Queen Camilla pulled an epic style surprise by re-wearing her wedding dress on the twentieth anniversary of her marriage to King Charles. And just to really make it special, The Queen chose the outfit from her civil ceremony.
King Charles and Queen Camilla are the only monarch and consort in the Royal Family's history to have married in a civil ceremony so a re-wear for this truly historic outfit packs an extra punch. For the fashionistas, it's a cream coloured coat dress with textured embellishments and it was designed by Anna Valentine.
On April 9th 2005, Camilla wore it to Windsor Guildhall where she married Charles in a short civil ceremony. The two then had a blessing at St. George's Chapel, Windsor but by then the brand new member of the Royal Family had changed into a full length blue and gold coat dress, again by Anna Valentine.
On April 9th 2025, Queen Camilla wore the cream Anna Valentine for a day out in Rome. Its first appearance came at the Italian parliament where King Charles became the first British monarch to address both houses and got a standing ovation for it. Her Majesty then kept the coat dress on for a stroll through the sun dappled streets of Rome where she stopped for an ice cream - vanilla, naturally, because anything else might stain the wedding dress.
It was a sweet and unexpected gesture and it's certainly captured imagination. A very clever style nod from a queen who has found her stride and then some.
