Queen Camilla and Kate both reach to their wedding dress designers for major event

The Queen and the future queen had more than blue as their colour in common as they welcomed the President of Germany to Windsor for a State Visit. For this most important of events, Camilla and Kate both returned to their wedding dress designers and quite a show they put on while they were about it.

First to be seen was Kate who accompanied Prince William to Heathrow Airport to greet the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife, Elke Budenbender, as they touched down in the UK.

The Princess of Wales chose a blue coat by her wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and this one has been seen before, most notably at the Royal Family Christmas celebrations at Sandringham in 2023. Underneath was a dark blue dress from Burberry which got more of a close up when the royals headed inside for lunch and a look at some priceless artefacts from the Royal Collection.

Queen Camilla made her appearance as the official welcome ceremony got under way. Her blue coat was by Anna Valentine who created both her wedding day outfits - the cream coat dress worn for the civil marriage and the blue and gold set that was chosen for the blessing at St. George's Chapel later the same day. Camilla really kept it marital as her hat was by her wedding day milliner, Philip Treacy.

Blue was an interesting choice for both women and could have a poignant reason. In 1998, Queen Elizabeth II hosted the then President of Germany, Roman Herzog, at Windsor for a State Visit and chose the exact same colour for the start of proceedings. A rather special motivation to make blue the colour.
