Royals on social media, week ending October 18th 2014

A queen with a giant teapot, a duchess on the stairs and two princesses taking centre stage - here's what the royal houses of Europe have been posting on their official social media channels this week.


Princes and surprises


Prince Carl Philip surprised some by giving an interview to Swedish TV in the week where he spoke about being a royal, his marriage plans and his dyslexia.  An image of the chat was shared on the official Swedish Royal Family Facebook page before the broadcast.


Prince Harry said he was surprised to find himself sitting between two men when he attended the 100 Women in Hedge Funds event in London this week - the dinner is held to raise funds for the Well Child charity.  The prince was later photographed with some of the female guests in an image from the organisation which was retweeted by the Clarence House Twitter account.


And Crown Prince Haakon of Norway surprised hundreds of people taking part in Global Dignity Day when he got them to pose for a giant selfie which he then tweeted on the official account he shares with Crown Princess Mette-Marit.




The Young Ones


Europe's next generation of royals moved into the spotlight this week. Princess Elisabeth of Belgium gave a speech, which she had written herself, in three languages at a commemoration for the centenary of World War One.  The Belgian Monarchy Twitter featured images from the event.



The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia accompanied their parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, at ceremonies for Spain's national day for the first time.  The official You Tube channel of the Spanish Royal House, Casa Real TV, shared videos of the events.




Official visits


The Norwegian Royal Family welcomed the President of India on a state visit in the week.  They shared photos of the welcome ceremony for Pranab Mukherjee on the official Facebook page.


The King and Queen of Spain made an official introductory visit to the Netherlands in the week and both royal houses shared photos on their Twitter accounts with Casa Real providing a range of images.



The Dutch Royal Facebook page featured a photo of King Willem-Alexander and King Felipe VI sharing a hug.



Didn't expect to see you here...

The Duchess of Cornwall starred in an unusual image shared on the Clarence House Twitter feed in the week. Camilla made a speech about the importance of credit unions on Credit Union Day and was snapped speaking on the stairs of her official London residence.  made several speeches in the week which were featured on the official Clarence House Twitter accoun


Queen Mathilde starred in another unusual royal photo when she toured an exhibition all about Belgian design and found herself face to face with two giant plastic teapots.  The official Belgian royal Twitter feed shared the moment.
