The dowager queen died at the Stuyvenberg Castle in Brussels which had been her home for several years. Politicians across Belgium have paid tribute to Fabiola who was known for her religious devotion and her work for charity. She became queen in December 1960 when she married Baudouin and the couple were famously devoted to one another. Equally famously, they were unable to have children and lost five babies. Queen Fabiola of the Belgians was consort for 33 years and dowager for 21. No details of her funeral have yet been announced.
