Mary, Christian and Isabella of Denmark arriving at one of the semi finals of Eurovision 2014
The contest is taking place in Copenhagen after Denmark won last year when Emmelie de Forrest swept to victory with 'Only Teardrops' at the contest in Malmo, Sweden. And her reign at Eurovision had a royal beginning as well after she shared a story that her father's family thought they might be descended from Queen Victoria via a liaison between Edward VII and an Austrian princess. The story was questioned several times and by the time Emmelie Charlotte-Victoria arrived in Malmo it had been put to one side.

But the end of her reign as queen of Eurovision will have a regal air as well as the future monarchs of Denmark lend their support to the competition. They are following in the footsteps of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway who took her eldest son, Marius, along to the 2010 final when it was held in the Telenor Arena in Oslo.

And there could well be more royal representation to come as three of the five favourites to win Eurovision 2014 are countries with kings and queens. Sweden is the current bookies' tip to take the title with the Netherlands close behind and the UK picking up support in the last day or so. This time next year it could be Willem-Alexander and Maxima, William and Kate or Victoria and Daniel singing along from the crowd. But for the next couple of days, Eurovision is a very Danish royal affai.
