The Royal Wardrobe: the 5 top looks of the week

The Royal Wardrobe is stuttering into autumn. The unseasonably mild weather means that the dramatic coats and hats we expect in November are staying behind closed doors and a little bit of layering is the order of the day. Here are the eight most striking looks from the royal week just gone.

1.  Mary and Maxima

They're clearly great friends so maybe that's why the Queen of the Netherlands and the Crown Princess of Denmark showed off such complementary outfits when they met for an event on Maxima's home turf.

Mary's pastel pink coat did a perfect clashing colour contrast with Maxima's yellow top and grey skirt and cape. And the Danish royal later showed why she's currently leading every fashion poll going by losing the coat and showing off a black polo neck jumper and pink skirt combo that would win a fashion off any day of the week. Totally in the pink.

2. Letizia dons a cape

Letizia had a couple of very dull looks this week but no one bets against the Queen of Spain losing  a fashion face off. Ever. And while most of her outfits this week weren't writing hope about (grey trouser suit anyone?), the cape she chose to present design awards on Malaga was a cracker.

It was, of course, totally on trend but it had an air of formality that is sometimes missing from the wardrobe choices of the Queen of Spain. But we didn't need to worry - Letizia does scholarly with style too.

3.  Mette-Marit makes merry in maroon

There was a fashion forward look for Crown Princess Mette-Marit in the week too when she made a speech wearing an autumn winter 2015 favourite - burgundy leather.

Mette-Marit chose the two piece for an event at Oslo Town Hall marking the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross in Norway. The Norwegian princess is more known for her own style than for following others' leads but this foray into fashion fabulousness was a winning moment.

4.  A splash of colour from The Queen

The November weather may have been grey, but the Queen added a splash of very bright colour when she visited Imjin Barrack in Gloucester in the week.

The Queen has developed a striking wardrobe of colour clashes in the past couple of years and this bright pink with bright orange contrasts is one of the best. It was worn for three engagements and was a winner at each of them.

 5. A skating success for an expectant Crown Princess

Victoria has been hitting the blue section of her maternity wardrobe in recent days and with baby due in March that leaves us plenty of time to speculate on whether she's dropping us a hint that another prince is on the way for Sweden. Regardless, her picks have been rather pretty and the skater dress she chose as the week came to an end was among the best.

There was plenty of embellishment, a flowing skirt and a pretty updo to complement the outfit worn during the Tunisian State Visit to Sweden.  And it rounds off the top five looks from this week's Royal Wardrobe.
