Queen Camilla takes flag dressing to new heights on her visit to Australia

I do love a bit of flag dressing. It's that strange style habit that really only applies to royals and top class sports stars competing on a world stage. It's something you do if you're about to attempt global glory for your nation on the track or if you're arriving in a capital for an official visit. As it's Olympic year, there have been plenty of chances to literally fly the flag but Queen Camilla has a strong claim to the best flag dressing game of 2024.

It's all down to Australia. As she arrived with The King for the first visit there of his reign, The Queen went for the country's national colours but royal style. The bright gold and green was represented in subtle sherbet versions of the shades. Well, she is the Queen of Australia, too, after all and if she's says pastel is the way, that's how it goes.

For her first official engagement on this historic visit, a service at St. Thomas' Church in Sydney, Queen Camilla was wearing a pale green coat dress with textured cuffs by Anna Valentine. The other half of Australia's national colours was represented in a light gold straw hat by Lock & Co.

Gold and green have long been associated with Australia although they weren't formally adopted as the national colours until 1984. The gold represents the country's beaches and mineral wealth while the green is for the forests and eucalyptus which marks Australia's natural environment.
