Royals on social media

The Easter break is now well underway and royal diaries around Europe have begun to quieten down. But there was still plenty going on with lots of it being shared on the official social media accounts of the continent's royal houses. Here are some of the highlights...

Easter traditions

As Holy Week got under way, the King of Spain watched traditional processions in Seville.  Images from Felipe VI's visit on March 30th were shared on the official Casa Real Twitter account.

On Maudy Thursday, the Queen distributed the traditional Maundy money at a service at Sheffield Cathedral. She gave bags of symbolic coins to 89 men and 89 women to thank them for their work for the community - there are always the same number of people in each group as the years in the monarch's age. Photos of the event were shared on the official British Monarchy Twitter account.

Helicopter heroes

Kensington Palace confirmed in the week that the Duke of Cambridge has become an employee of Bond Air Services and started job specific training for his work with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service. They shared a photo of the duke with the announcement on the official Kensington Palace Twitter account.

The King of the Belgians made a working visit to the Beauvechain base where he saw a new helicopter during a training flight. Images of the trip were shared on the official Monarchie Belge Twitter account.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour asks everyone to switch off the lights and save energy and the Swedish Royal Family joined in, sharing an image on its official Facebook page.

The initiative is backed by the World Wildlife Fund and was also supported by the Norwegian Royals with an image of the Royal Palace in Oslo in darkness shared on the official Facebook page.
