Remembering Rainier

Rainier III, Prince of Monarco, died ten years ago today. The sovereign passed away at the Prince's Palace in Monte Carlo on April 6th 2005 after a long period of ill health. He ruled Monaco for 56 years but in the last week of his life his son, Albert, acted as regent as Rainier's deteriorating health took its toll. But those final days aren't what Rainier is remembered for. He was the glamourous ruler of a glamourous country who expanded its economy and made it one of the most famous places in the world when he swept a film star off her feet and turned Grace Kelly into a princess.

His grief at her death in 1982 and his enduring love for her only added to the romance of his story. On the tenth anniversary of his death, here are some of the best images taken of the man who was one of modern Europe's longest reigning sovereigns.
