Culture, classes and couscous

Many of their contemporary monarchs in waiting have taken part in large scale, official celebrations to mark their tenth wedding anniversaries.  But the Prince and Princess of Asturias kept everything very low key as they reached a decade of marriage.  After taking their children to school, they popped off to see an exhibition and then stopped by a popular restaurant in Madrid for some couscous.  Their romance has been seen as one of the most modern of royal Europe and their big wedding anniversary was definitely 21st century.

A snatched photo of the Prince and Princess of Asturias eating couscous at a popular restaurant in Madrid on the evening of their tenth wedding anniversary, May 22nd 2014

The day started with a couple of photos, released through the Spanish Royal Household's new Twitter account, of the couple with their children at the start of the school run.  The family were seen leaving their home and in a posed image taken just before that where Felipe put his arm around his wife and all four beamed at the camera.

The couple then headed to Toledo to see a major exhibition on El Greco being held to mark the 400th anniversary of his death.  Letizia, as always, was on trend in a beige mac style coat while the prince dressed down in a blazer and scarf.  The couple did a walkabout and posed for more photos as they held hands on the steps of the building housing the exhibition.

And then it was back home for some time with their daughters before heading off for an informal dinner for two in one of Madrid's most popular restaurants.  The couple looked relaxed throughout the day and, unlike the other heirs who have celebrated ten years of marriage, the images of their special day are very much a photo album rather than posed images.  Felipe and Letizia have always done things their way and this big anniversary is no different.
