Royal Christening Countdown: Prince Gabriel's godparents

Stop thinking weddings for just a moment. We've got another big royal event this week - Prince Gabriel of Sweden is christened on December 1st. Ahead of his big day, the Swedish Royal Court has announced the names of his godparents. Here's who gets the honour of standing sponsor to Gabriel.

As expected, Gabriel's godparents include an auntie from each side of his family. Princess Madeleine, younger sister of Gabriel's dad Prince Carl Philip, is one of his sponsors as is Sara Hellqvist, sister to Princess Sofia. The couple are keeping things in the family with the first of Gabriel's godfathers, too, as Thomas de Toledo Sommerlath is a cousin of Carl Philip on his mother's side.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have also chosen two friends to stand as sponsor to their younger son. Carolina Pihl was a business partner of Sofia before her marriage and has remained close to her. Oscar Kylberg is the last of Gabriel's godparents. He is a business partner of Carl Philip - they have a design company called Bernadotte & Kylberg.

Prince Gabriel Carl Walter is the second son of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. He was born on August 31st 2017, a little brother for Prince Alexander, who is now 20 months old. Gabriel, sixth in line to the throne of Sweden, will be christened at Drottningholm Palace.
