Regal red dominates this year's Christmas decorations at Holyroodhouse Palace. The Queen's official home in Scotland has been decked with trees and garlands dominated by scarlet as the festive season gets under way.
The focal point of the decorations is the fifteen feet high fir tree in the Throne Room at the Edinburgh palace which has been a royal residence since the 12th century. The tree, with its glittering decorations, stands in front of the newly installed portrait of King Charles II which has been put in place to co-incide with a new exhibition on art in the monarch's reign which is taking place at The Queen's Gallery in Edinburgh. And who better to oversee regal festive celebrations than the king who brought back Christmas after Oliver Cromwell's ban?
Back to the decorations. As well as that huge tree, there's a starring role for a sparkling garland along the Grand Staircase. The evergreen has been trimmed with gold baubles and frosty white fruit and flowers to add a real feel of Christmas spirit to the building. Visitors to Holyroodhouse can see the decorations up close and personal between now and January 6th 2019.
