Andrew and the armed guards

All mums have had that moment when they wonder whether the kids will ever move out.  That bedroom would make such a nice little spare room and there's great wallpaper in the sales that would look so much better than those awful stripes we let them have all those years ago.  But sending the armed guards out to confront them is a bit much, isn't it?

Prince Andrew with the Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.  It's reported that earlier this week the duke was challenged by armed guards in the palace's back gardens.

It's being reported in The Sunday Express today, and on the BBC, that Prince Andrew was challenged in the grounds of Buckingham Palace this week by armed guards who wanted him to prove his identity.  And 'don't you know who I am' wasn't an option.  Scotland Yard has confirmed that a man was challenged in the gardens but wouldn't say whether it was the Duke of York.

The Duke of York is fifth in line for the throne but that didn't stop armed officers asking him for some ID according to reports this morning

Police say that no arms were drawn and no physical force was used in the incident.  It happened two days after a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary after being found inside the Palace.  That led to a review of security at Buck House.

The prince was able to prove who he was and carried on with his early evening stroll.  But he might want to think about tidying his room more often to keep mum on side, just in case.
