Royal baby number two

After the Duchess of Cambridge shifted her baby weight without any problems, went back to work without any problems and hired a nanny without any problems, it's left a big gap in the expected commentary on Kate for the next few months.  With baby George just two months old, the duchess is back in the limelight with a tiny tum and a big smile and William's old nanny in tow answering all the questions that new mums face - namely, can you shift the baby weight, when are you going back to work and who is helping you at home.  There's just one more question Kate must now face and her speed at dealing with the others has brought that one forward by several months.  The first 'when will she have another baby' article has made its appearance.

What Kate did next.  According to one recent report, it's try for another baby

All new parents expect the chorus of 'having another one?' to grow in proportion with their baby.  As he or she gets bigger, so the questions of a future sibling get louder.  But royal mums face a far greater set of expectations over their great expectations.  And with the first mention of baby number two less than three months after she produced baby number one, Kate is going to have to get that fixed grin and diplomatic say nothing answer down to perfection.

The question of when the couple will be posing outside St Mary's, Paddington, has already reared its head

The article speculating on baby number two says that an unnamed source has mentioned that Kate and William think a very small gap between children would be a great idea and are hoping to announce her second pregnancy around Christmas meaning that the heir's heir's spare would arrive around July 2014.  If that was the case, it would be the speediest second royal arrival for decades.  Charles and Diana had a 27 month gap between William and Harry while the Queen had a 21 month wait between her first and second borns.  The Queen Mother had a four year gap while George V and Queen Mary left sixteen months between their two little boys who both grew up to be king.  And Queen Alexandra and Edward VII had a seventeen month wait before their baby prince number two arrived in the royal nursery.  In fact a twelve month gap for ruling royals in the UK hasn't been seen since 1841 when Queen Victoria gave birth to her two eldest children within a year of one another.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were the last royal rulers in the UK to have less than a year between their first and second child

Of course, until the announcement has been made no one will know when Kate and William are adding to their family.  But one thing is sure.  Until that big news comes, there will be an endless round of speculative guess work and photos of Kate looking a bit peaky/ a bit bloated/ a bit tired to back up claims she's in the royal family way again.
