May birthdays for all these royals....
May is filled with royal birthdays with queens, heirs, princes and princesses among those celebrating. They're all special days in their own way from Princess Charlotte turning two to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark notching up the final birthday of his forties. Here are ten royal birthday being marked in May.
Lady Sarah Chatto is 53 on May 1st 2017
Lady Sarah Frances Elizabeth Armstrong-Jones was born on May 1st 1964 at Kensington Palace, London. She is the second child and only daughter of the late Princess Margaret and Earl of Snowdon. She was close to her her aunt, the Queen, growing up and went on to become a professional artist. She married Daniel Chatto in July 1994 and has two sons with him. Lady Sarah Chatto, who lost her father earlier this year, is twenty first in line to the throne.
Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is 2 on May 2nd 2017
Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge was born on May 2nd 2015 at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. She is the second child and first daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and her birth made headlines around the world. She was christened on July 5th 2015 and lives in Norfolk and London with her parents and big brother, Prince George. Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne and has starred in a new birthday portrait by her mum, now she is two.
Prince Henrik of Denmark is 8 on May 4th 2017
Prince Henrik Carl Joachim Alain of Denmark, Count of Monpezat was born on May 4th 2009 in Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. He is the first child of the marriage of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark and his father's third son - he has two older half brothers, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix. He lives in Copenhagen with his parents and younger sister, Princess Athena. Prince Henrik is ninth in the Danish line of succession.
Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is 38 on May 13th 2017
Carl Philip Edmund Bertil of Sweden was born at the Royal Palace, Stockholm on May 13th 1979, the second child and first son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. He was Crown Prince of Sweden from birth until December 31st 1979 when a law change, planned before his birth, took effect making birth order the decider in who inherited the throne. The title of Crown Princess passed to his older sister, Victoria, and he moved to second in line to the throne of Sweden. In June 2015 he married Sofia Hellqvist and the couple's son, Prince Alexander, was born on April 19th 2016. By the time Carl Philip turns 39, he'll be a dad of two as the couple announced earlier this year that they will welcome another baby to their family this September. Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is now fourth in line to his country's throne.
Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones is 15 on May 14th 2017
Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne Armstrong-Jones was born on May 14th 2002 in London, the second child and first daughter of David, Viscount Linley and his wife, Serena. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Princess Margaret, who had died three months before her birth. Margarita Armstrong-Jones is a great granddaughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. She was a bridesmaid at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April 2011 and is currently twentieth in line to the throne. In January she became Lady Margarita when her father became Earl of Snowdon following the death of his father.
Zara Tindall is 36 on May 15th 2017
Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips was born on May 15th 1981 in London, the second child and only daughter of Princess Anne, later Princess Royal, and her first husband, Mark Phillips. She is the eldest granddaughter of Elizabeth II. She was educated at Gordonstoun and Exeter University. Zara Phillips was a World and European Eventing Champion and won a silver medal at the London Olympics which was presented to her by her mother. She married Mike Tindall in Edinburgh on July 30th 2011 and the couple has a daughter, Mia Grace Tindall, born in January 2014. Zara Tindall is sixteenth in line to the throne.
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is 46 on May 17th 2017
Maxima Zorreguieta was born on May 17th 1971 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the daughter of Jorge Zorreguieta and his wife, Maria del Carmen Cerruti. She grew up in Argentina and studied in America before working in the US and Belgium. She married Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on February 2nd 2002 in Amsterdam and the couple has three daughters. On April 30th 2013 she became the first queen consort of the Netherlands in over 100 years on the accession of her husband.
Pavlos of Greece is 50 on May 20th 2017
Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece was born on May 20th 1967 in Athens, the second child and first son of King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. He spent his first years in Greece until his family went into exile in Rome. He was educated in London and the United States. In July 1995 he married Marie-Chantal Miller and the couple has one daughter and four sons.
Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands is 51 on May 25th 2017
Petra Laurentien Brinkhorst was born on May 25th 1966 in Leiden in the Netherlands. She is the daughter of Dutch politician, Laurens Brinkhorst, and his wife, Jantien Brinkhorst-Heringa. She was educated in the Netherlands, London and the United States. She married Prince Constantijn, youngest son of Queen Beatrix, on May 19th 2001 in The Hague. They have three children and Constantijn is now fourth in line to the throne of the Netherlands.
Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark is 49 on May 26th 2017
Prince Frederik Andre Henrik Christian was born in Copenhagen on May 26th 1968, the first child of the then Princess Margrethe and her husband, Prince Henrik. He became Crown Prince of Denmark in January 1972 when his mother took the Danish throne on the death of her own father, Frederik IX. Crown Prince Frederik married Mary Elizabeth Donaldson in May 2004 and they have four children. He is first in line to the throne of Denmark.
