After a day of red carpets on ice and frost on cobbled streets, the very well polished floors and very expensive rugs of the British Embassy in Stockholm were very, very welcome. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ended day one of #RoyalVisitSweden at a dinner hosted by the UK Ambassador at his official residence. Think relaxed glamour. And flowers. Lots and lots of flowers.
The dinner was a chance for William and Kate to get to know members of the diplomatic community in Stockholm and to meet some of the country's politicians. Before the soup was served they sat down for a chat with the Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven, and his wife, Ulla, around a table decked with flowers. You know where this is going.
Their hosts for most of the day had been Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel and they were there for the gala evening. Victoria went for a kind of eighties take on LBD and Kate went for Erdem. You decide for yourselves if this is a hit or miss.
Tack till alla i Stockholm för det varma välkomnandet idag! An amazing first day in Stockholm for #RoyalVisitSweden 🇸🇪 pic.twitter.com/FxIeOyZqIh— Kensington Palace (@KensingtonRoyal) January 30, 2018
While you make your mind up, the Cambridges are ending their first day in Sweden, the start of a five day visit to Scandinavia which will take them to Norway at the start of February. It's been a good day with nice crowds, nice photos, a touch of sport, a sprinkle of royal glitz and plenty of talk about shared links. Day two promises more of the same and possibly more flowers. It's all coming up roses right now.
