King Charles meets Prince Harry in London with just a few people watching

King Charles has had his first face to face chat with Prince Harry in over a year and a half. And just a few people were interested.

The King welcomed his younger son to Clarence House on September 10 as Harry continued a series of events in the UK linked to organisations he supports. The Duke of Sussex was inside the royal home for just under an hour with reports suggesting the meeting had lasted just over half an hour. The two men took tea and presumably chatted and there were no reports of broken china. And someone would have heard it as press interest in this get together was immense.

Given Harry's public antagonism towards his family in the past few years, peace and calm would be very welcome. He's said he wants a reconciliation but that followed incendiary claims in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix programme and his book, Spare. However, what that looks like remains to be seen.

The meeting is seen as a potential first step to the two men developing a closer relationship. While no one knows what they talked about, it's also unclear how often they have communicated by phone or video call since Harry last met his father, early in 2024 after The King's cancer diagnosis was confirmed. As far as anyone knows, they may have chatted regularly. But the absence of a get together had been seen as a barrier to any future friendliness. The fact that they have met at all is being seen as significant in itself.
