The Prince and Princess of Wales honour Queen Elizabeth II

The Prince and Princess of Wales have honoured Queen Elizabeth II on the anniversary of her death. William and Kate headed to the WI, an organisation close to the heart of the late Queen.

The couple spent time meeting members of the WI, some of whom had met Elizabeth II themselves. They heard about the late Queen's devotion to the organisation and how it supports women to take on different activities and share their stories as well as support each other and their local communities.

Queen Elizabeth II was a member of the WI for 80 years, joining 1943. Later, she would become president of her local branch at Sandringham, holding that role between 2003 and 2022. She often visited at important moments in her life and was a regular at the January meeting at Sandringham.

During their time at the WI, William and Kate shared news of their children, confirming what everyone long suspected - Louis is a character. And the heir to the throne made a very important announcement about cake, a speciality of the WI. Prince William shared that he does enjoy a brownie but there is one rule - no nuts in a royal brownie. Duly noted by those present.

The visit came as the Royal Family marked three years since the death of Elizabeth II. The late Queen died on September 8 2022 at Balmoral. King Charles is at Balmoral on the anniversary with Queen Camilla. They will spend the day in quiet reflection.
