Queen Camilla and King Charles lead the Royal Family at Easter - with a few surprises

We already knew that the Prince and Princess of Wales wouldn't be joining the Royal Family for Easter at Windsor this year but that doesn't mean the clan couldn't pull a few surprises. In fact it was quite the shock to see Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah, with the main party heading into church on Easter Day.

Andrew and Fergie arrived at St. George's Chapel, Windsor without fanfare and with a royal bodyguard - Princess Anne and her husband, Tim Laurence, had been left in charge of the twosome ahead of the arrival of The King and Queen. That didn't stop a lot of exuberant waving from Sarah, Duchess of York or her ex husband taking up centre stage in the royal group that waited outside the chapel doors for King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Also there were the couple's two daughters. Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, walked at the head of the family group that headed down the hill to St. George's with Princess Eugenie and her hubby, Jack Brooksbank, close behind.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were part of the same group, accompanied by their son, James, Earl of Wessex. Sophie had also been put on Fergie duty and was later seen walking along with her, arm around her shoulders.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were the last to arrive, stopping briefly to wave to wellwishers and photographers before heading inside to a sea of curtsies and bows. The Queen chose a pale blue coat dress for the day and added a favourite brooch which features a dark blue stone at its centre, thought to be a moonstone.

There was a pretty pastel posy for Her Majesty as well which was all well and good but really all the attention was on the unexpected guests. Prince Andrew had decided to stay away from the royal gathering at Christmas after a row about his business relationship with a man accused of being a Chinese spy. However, it seems low key is just for Christmas, not forever with Andrew and he took the first chance he got to step back into the heart of the royal family gatherings.

Fergie, meanwhile, who has never knowingly done discreet, looked very ready for her close up and waved more than everyone else there combined.

Easter is a time of forgiveness and new starts and The King clearly wants to reach out to all his family - there, too was his cousin, Lady Sarah Chatto. However, he can expect a few media questions about why Andrew was there. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales had a quiet and private Easter away from the spotlight in Norfolk.
