It's a royal tour with its own hashtag but despite that very modern touch the visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia to Finland has been routed in tradition. Every State Visit needs a State Banquet and on day one of their three day tour, the royal couple were treated to a spectacular gala dinner at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki hosted by President Sauli Niinisto and his wife, Jenni Haukio.

At the gala dinner, King Carl XVI Gustaf spoke of the many Finnish people who had come to Sweden to help build its society over the years and both he and the president touched on the close links between the two countries. Here are a selection of the best photos of the evening.
