There was plenty of opportunity to see the duchess upstairs and downstairs as she saw several of the stages where the show is filmed. She was presented with a toy train by one of the actors who plays Lady Mary's son, George, and with a chocolate cake by two of the stars of the kitchen - Mrs Patmore and Daisy. And she was given plenty of credit for the show's success when Lord Julian Fellowes, who created Downton Abbey, said that the duchess' love of the show had helped it take off in America.
