Taylor Swift gets engaged and Kate sends very 21st century congratulations

In case you missed it (and how?), Taylor Swift is engaged to Travis Kelce and we have royal approval. The most famous soon to be weds in the world did the 2025 thing and announced their big news with a joint Instagram post. And the royals they love to hang out with sent congratulations in exactly the same way.

Cue Kate with her like button. The Prince and Princess of Wales were among the 26 million and counting (yes, you read that right) accounts that liked the announcement. Yes, it's a big group but when you're the future king and queen, you kind of stand out. Plus, quite a lot of people were looking for that little red heart from Kate because, let's face it, the Wales and the Swift-Kelces have previous.

Taylor has been hanging out with William and co since the year Prince George was born. Back in 2013, the now Prince of Wales went to a Centrepoint’s Winter Whites gala at Kensington Palace where Taylor, still ranking as superstar rather than global phenomenon at this point, was singing. And at one point, she asked William to join her on stage with Jon Bon Jovi and he, somehow, said yes. The heir to the throne later explained that he really didn't know why he'd formed one part of the unlikeliest trio ever to perform Livin' on a Prayer but that he had got swept along because it ''seemed like a great idea''.

It no doubt won him some points with his children as they grew up. Even better for Prince George, he wasn't left at home the next time his dad crossed paths with Taylor Swift as he and Princess Charlotte were taken along to one of her London concerts in 2024 and even got to meet the singer backstage. There was another Instagram moment as both singer and sovereign in waiting took to the social media app to share photos of them hanging out on the Eras tour. And the royals made quite the impression on Travis Kelce who said on a podcast that ''Prince William was fantastic'' while George was ''great'' and Charlotte was ''adorable''. That's a page boy and bridesmaid sorted then by the soon to be Mr Swift. More royal hearts incoming.
