Queen Elizabeth II's car sells for six figure sum at auction

A car once driven by Queen Elizabeth II has sold at auction. And the final price was more than double the estimate.

The Range Rover, which belonged to the late Queen between 2006 and 2008, was sold for £175,000 by Iconic Auctioneers. They had put an estimate of £50, 000 - £70,000 on the vehicle. However, it achieved a price far in excess of that - not bad for a vehicle with almost 120,000 miles on the clock. In fact, it's a world record for a royal car.

It was, of course, its royal connections that got it to such a high price. Queen Elizabeth II personally drove this car for several years and was seen with it on several occasions. She kept it discreet - the Range Rover was finished in Tonga Green which is a popular colour for personal royal cars. Inside, it displays all the luxuries you would expect with seats trimmed in Oxford Sand leather and accessories in burr walnut.

There are other nods to its royal past. Security modifications were made and a dog guard is in place, once nuzzled by Elizabeth II's corgis and dorgis. The late Queen was at the wheel of British life for 70 years. Now one of her driving forces belongs to someone else.
