Camilla books in for a challenge

One of the passions of the Duchess of Cornwall is literacy - in recent months, she's talked to prisoners about reading and writing.  And today, Camilla gave her support to a major book push for youngsters - the #SummerReadingChallenge.  The duchess got involved when she visited Exeter Library to officially reopen it.  And she got roped into plenty of challenges while she was there.

First, she helped launch the reading challenge with the help of children's author, Sarah McIntyre, who had come in a suitably bright outfit.  And just after Camilla had got to grips with that, she was accepting the challenge of posing for a royal selfie with the author - and coping when the phone's battery failed.

The duchess then took part in a song session designed to get children interested in story telling.

But her biggest challenge was to step up to the front of the most unforgiving audience of all - a room full of children - and put pen to paper to help create a maze.  Camilla kept her cool and won the kids over.

During this part of their annual tour of Devon and Cornwall, the duchess and Prince Charles also visited the world famous River Cottage where they met Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

The royal couple learned about the young chefs learning through the Chefs School and the prince heard about the foraging courses that take place at the cottage which is a working farm.

The engagements were part of day two of the annual tour which this year has taken place in glorious sunshine.  The couple will be in the South West of England for several more days.
