Royal fashion, week ending July 26th 2014

With so much attention on what royals wear these days, every week this section will feature the best outfits worn by leading royals in Europe in the week just gone.  It probably all comes down to different tastes in the end but here are the top choices from the last seven days.

Symbolism

Queen Mathilde of the Belgians wore several stunning outfits in the week as her country marked its national day and the first anniversary of the accession of King Philippe.  But it was her choice of evening outfit on July 21st 2014 that really stood out.  The queen wore a simple white dress with a striking print on the skirt featuring Flanders poppies - a reminder that in just a few days time, it will be a century since the start of World War One.

Going green

There were more prints on display in the only outfit seen on the Duchess of Cambridge this week.  Kate chose a green dress by Suzannah for the birthday portraits with Prince George.  It was a repeat but only the hem had made it into photos before as the duchess usually teams it with a green Erdem coat - however hot it gets.

Princess Mary of Denmark went for a green print maxi dress as she appeared alongside other members of the Royal Family for the traditional summer photo call as the holidays got under way on July 24th 2014.

The Duchess of Cornwall also chose a green print dress for one of her visits to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Pale and interesting

The Queen of Spain chose pale shades throughout the week for her public appearances but the best was a white shirt and skirt combo worn with snakeskin shoes for an appearance at the Pardo Palace in Madrid on July 21st 2014.
