Royals on social media - week ending July 19th 2014

Here's how the Royal Houses of Europe have been communicating with their followers on their official social media sites...

By the seaside

The summer holidays are getting under way and the royals of Europe are getting into the spirit of things. The seaside has been the setting for several photos shared on social media this week.  On July 19th 2014, the Crown Prince and Princess of Norway tweeted a link to a new set of images taken by the sea in Dvergsoya near Christiansand to mark Haakon Magnus' 41st birthday on July 20th 2014.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall spent quite a lot of time on the beach in the week as they toured Devon and Cornwall.  Clarence House tweeted photos of the prince meeting local dog owners on Watergate Beach in Cornwall.

The prince and the duchess later posed with Surf Action volunteers but didn't go as far as the Duchess of Cambridge had in Australia and join in the running along the sand.

Keeping up with the kids

Education and learning were the focus of several social media updates in the week.  The Belgian Royal Household marked the official summer opening of its palaces with a series of tweets on July 18th showing King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at a workshop for children in the palace being run by Technopolis.

The Spanish Royal Household Twitter account shared photos of Queen Letizia in Oviedo on July 18th where she attended a music school and met some of the younger pupils.

The Duchess of Cornwall starred in some photos on the Clarence House Twitter feed as she joined in with a children's workshop at Exeter Library which she re-opened on July 15th 2014.

Special days

The Swedish Royal Household invited people to send birthday wishes to the Crown Princess by leaving messages on its Facebook page.  Victoria of Sweden turned 37 on July 13th 2014.

The Royal House of Luxembourg tweeted a link to a photo gallery of images taken to mark Princess Amalia's christening in France.

Summer fun

Prince William and Prince Harry took part in a cricket match for United for Wildlife in the week and Clarence House tweeted a photo of the home and away dressing room doors before the game got under way.

The Clarence House account later retweeted a video of the end of the game - won by the royals.
