The Cambridges and Mandela
Prince William found himself leading the royal tributes to a former head of state last week when the death of Nelson Mandela was announced while he and the Duchess of Cambridge were watching the Royal Film Performance of Long Road to Freedom. Today, the duke and his wife were at South Africa House in London to sign a book of condolence set up after the death of the former president. William's father, Charles, will be at the private funeral of Nelson Mandela on Sunday - there was no one from the British royal family at the state memorial service in Johannesburg on December 10th 2013. By signing the book of condolence, William and Kate have once more given a public face to the royal family's private mourning for Nelson Mandela - the man who called the queen his friend, Elizabeth.
