Royals on social media, week ending June 21st 2014

All the best pics posted by the Royal Houses of Europe on social media in the week ending June 21st 2014....

Moving pictures

It was all about moving pictures on social media for Europe's royals this week.  The Swedish Royal House released a video of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia during their recent visit to the Chinese Pavilion at the Drottningholm Palace to see restoration work.

It was all about restoration for Norway's royals as well with a video showing preparations for the annual opening of several castles to the public with King Harald taking a starring role.

The Duchess of Cambridge visited the restored Bletchley Park this week and the British Monarchy You Tube channel featured a specially made video of her at the event.

Good sports

Football mania continued to grip some Royal Houses in the week - but only if their teams were still in the World Cup.  King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima starred in a photo on the official Dutch Royal Household Twitter account during their flying visit to Brazil to see the Netherlands beat Australia 3-2.

King Philippe of the Belgians was shown on his Royal Household's Twitter feed celebrating as his country's team beat Algeria 2-1 in their first group match.

But it was Princess Claire of Belgium who really got into the World Cup party mood as she posted a photo on her own Twitter account of husband, Prince Laurent, and their three children dressed up ready to support the Belgian team in their first game.

And although their team didn't make it to Brazil, the Crown Prince and Princess of Norway still got into the spirit and held a friendly football match with Mette-Marit retweeting a photo of her husband showing off his footballing skills.

Serious messages sent in new ways

The Duchess of Cambridge released a personal statement in support of Children's Hospice Week including images of a private visit she had made to the East Anglia Children's Hospice of which she is patron - it was sent out on their Twitter account and retweeted by Clarence House.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit used her official and her personal Twitter account to publicise her campaign to open a library in the Queen's Pavilion for a couple of days this week to allow people access to books they might not otherwise read.  The Norwegian Royal House also featured photos on its Facebook page.

New royals for Europe

Europe got a new king, queen and princess this week.  The Twitter feed of the Spanish royal house, @CasaReal, posted photos of the abdication of Juan Carlos I, the proclamation of Felipe VI and a thank you message from the new monarchs when the two emotional days were over.

And Princess Amalia of Luxembourg was the star of several albums of photos on her family's official Facebook page with links to the images on their official website tweeted to their followers as well.
