The succession in Spain

The current King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, is abdicating.  He will be succeeded by his only son, Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso y Todos los Santos, who is expected to reign as Felipe VI.

His consort will be Letizia Ortiz Rocosolano who will be known as Queen Letizia and who is the first commoner to wear the crown of Spain.

Felipe's heir is Leonor y Todos Los Santos, born in October 2005, and who will be in line to be named as Princess of Asturias.

Second in line is Felipe's youngest daughter, Sofia y Todos los Santos, born in April 2007 and now heiress to her sister.  She will remain known as the Infanta Sofia of Spain.

It is not yet known what title the former king and queen of Spain will bear or where Juan Carlos and Sofia will live after the abdication.
