King and Queen for 25 years

The Norwegian Royal Family has really spoiled us today with a huge photo album of new images released to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of Harald V as King of Norway. The photos feature the monarch, his consort and their family. So, first let's concentrate on the king.

The first official portrait shows the king in dress uniform in a familiar pose with similarities to other official portraits of recent times.  The second is a more relaxed close up portrait with just the hint of a smile.

But Sunday isn't just the anniversary of the arrival of a king. It also marks the jubilee of his consort for Queen Sonja has stood at King Harald's side for every second of his quarter of a century long reign.

Queen Sonja features in several solo images including a relaxed and classic pose which shows just how much her daughter, Princess Martha Louise, looks like her.

But the stand out image from the photos of the king and queen is the formal portrait with Harald in uniform and Sonja in palest green and dazzling emeralds. It is a fitting photo for a special anniversary. And next we'll look at the images of Harald's heir and his family.
