Royal christening: the Queen's grandchildren

Prince George's christening is the latest entry into the royal history books.  One day the photos, taken by Jason Bell, will sit alongside the others that have marked the first major moment of royal lives through the decades.

 
Things get a bit chaotic for the first photos of the christening of Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales on August 4th 1982 at Buckingham Palace
 
 
Slightly more sedate at the baptism of Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales on December 21st 1984 at Windsor Castle
 
 
Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York was the last royal baby to be christened at St James' Palace, London on December 20th 1988
 
 
Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena of York was the first royal baby to have a public christening when her baptism was held as part of a service at St Mary Magdalene's Church, Sandringham, on December 23rd 1990
 
 
James Alexander Philip Theo, Viscount Severn, is the youngest grandchild of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and was christened at Windsor Castle on April 19th 2008
 
 
Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Windsor was christened at Windsor Castle on April 24th 2004
 
 
One of the first glimpses of Elizabeth II as a grandmother came on December 22nd 1977 when Peter Mark Andrew Phillips was christened at Buckingham Palace
 
 
Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips was christened at Buckingham Palace on July 27th 1981.  She is currently the lowest ranking in the line of succession of all the Queen's descendants but was named today as the godmother of future king, Prince George of Cambridge
