Five times queens have glittered in gold

Before you get excited for jewels, this is about gold clothes.  The stand out, remember it long after the week has gone, made us all sit up and say wow outfit of the past seven days was definitely the Queen in gold. She sparkled everyone else off the page so to pay tribute to this special outfit here are five times queens have glittered in gold (clothes).  But which is your favourite?

There was a double dose of gold on offer from Queen Sofia and the future Queen Letizia at the 2009 Pascua Militar. Sofia went for a soft gold skirt and gold embellishment on her jacket while Letizia chose an all gold ensemble that twinkled in the January sun. Gold-tastic.

Queen Paola of the Belgians chose a soft gold dress with pleating and a matching shawl for the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling in Stockholm in 2010. Add in some really rather lovely diamonds and this is a true sparkler.

Queen Margrethe always looks regal but this gold gown chosen for her State Visit to Japan is right up there at the very top of tip top royal dressing. It's elegant, dramatic and totally fabulous. Add in some cracking jewels and this look is a rightly regal.

Sparkle, sparkle and a bit more sparkle. Queen Rania of Jordan truly glittered in this glorious gold gown. It's modern, magical and really rather marvellous. Another fashion win from a royal style icon.

Here's the dazzling outfit chosen by the Queen for an awards ceremony in London this week. It's a fabulous shade of gold with enough glitter to match the flashbulbs which went off when she stepped out of the car wearing it. A sparkling success.
