Harry in Lancashire

After Storms Desmond, Eva, Frank and Gertrude, this time it was Harry heading for Lancashire. Prince Henry of Wales visited the county today to see how residents had coped with the flooding brought by the recent storms and to meet some of those who had helped with the rescue efforts. And he ran into a 97 year old lady called Winnie who has seen it all before and told the prince how the local area always bounced back.

Prince Harry headed to Weeton Barracks to meet some of the soldiers involved in the clear up operation. But before he could get inside to say hello he was greeted by a crowd of local school children from Weeton Primary School where many of the soldiers' children go to class. And they were very excited to see their royal guest as their teacher had kept the big visit a big secret until just before Harry arrived.

There was also a chance to meet other residents hit by the floods which left hundreds of homes under water and businesses affected. He heard how people living in the area had coped and how they were rebuilding the communities hit by the storms and the deluges they brought with them. And among those he talked to was 97 year old Winifred Hodson who moved to St Micahel's when she was 14 and who has seen floods hit the area several times before.

Harry was full of praise for those who had helped clear things up, talking to the soldiers who had given up their Christmasses to help sort out flood hit areas. And there was plenty of fun, too, for the children who had spent Christmas Day without their parents as they went out to help others.
But today was really all about one lady and this handsome prince - when Harry met Winnie.
