Letizia's splash of colour

Queen Letizia has kept things rather muted since the turn of the year but for a visit to the Royal Palace this week she went for a big splash of colour. She chose a red dress, jacket and shoes for her tour of building improvements carried out at the palace and brightened up a grey day in the process.

Letizia was being shown some of the works that have been carried out at the Palace which was reconstructed in the 18th century following a fire. The palace is owned by the Spanish State and is only used by the royals for ceremonial occasions.

It's undergoing a series of works to make it more accessible for disabled people and the Spanish queen was shown some of the improvements including a series of ramps and lifts put in.

We've seen Letizia's red before but it was a bit of an eye opener this time round as so far this year, she's kept to mostly muted shades with black and white dominating her wardrobe. But with this choice, fashion icon Queen Letizia has shown she's back in business for 2016.
