This was the Queen's first evening appearance in London for 2016 and she arrived at Claridge's Hotel on a chilly February evening in an outfit set to warm up any event. Her gold skirt suit had plenty of glitter about it and quite possibly won the royal fashion race for this week - the words epitome and elegance spring to mind.

The Gold Service Scholarship Award was set up in 2012 to encourage young people working in front of house in the hospitality industry to aspire to a gold standard. The scholarship allows them to spend a year learning the very highest levels of service from some of the top names in the industry. The Queen is its 2016 patron.

This year's winner, Jernnifer Santner from Fenchurch Restaurant at Sky Garden, said she was overwhelmed by her award which the Queen handed over in a short ceremony inside Claridge's.
