Mary turns 44

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark celebrates her 44th birthday today. We don't know yet whether there will be new photos (probably not as it's not a big birthday and we'll probably get pics of Princess Marie tomorrow for her 40th) so while we wait to find out, here's a look back at some of Mary's best photos.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is 44 today

Mary Elizabeth Donaldson was born on February 5th 1972 in Hobart, Tasmania, the youngest child of John and Henrietta Donaldson. She met Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and their engagement was announced on October 8th 2003

Mary Donaldson became Crown Princess of Denmark on May 14th 2004 when she married Frederik in Copenhagen Cathedral in a wedding attended by royalty from around the world. Her dress was designed by Uffe Frank and her bouquet, which included a sprig of eucalyptus, was eventually placed on her mother's grave.

Mary and Frederik welcomed their first child, Christian, in October 2005 and now have a family of four with Isabella arriving in April 2007 (the first girl born to the Danish royals in five decades) and twins, Vincent and Josephine, completing the set in January 2011.

As Mary turns 44, she has built a reputation for supporting a wide range of sometimes overlooked causes including women's and children's rights. Her Mary Foundation works with other organisations to provide support for some of the most vulnerable in society.

Crown Princess Mary is also well known for her sense of style and regularly makes best dressed lists around the world. As she marks another birthday, she has got plenty to celebrate.
