Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge with her parents and brother on the day of her christening in an image by Marion Testino
We got four photos in the end, released on Twitter and shared by the photographer himself as well who said he was honoured to have been involved in the day. There was tradition with the expected family of four shot. But that, as well as the equally traditional wider family pose, had a new look to them and added a layer of modernity not seen before.

But it was the really personal images that gave us a glimpse of the royals as we don't usually see them and took christening photos into the 21st century. First there was a snap of Kate with Charlotte in her arms. The littlest princess is looking at the camera while her mum is looking at her and the whole image has the feel of one snapped in the middle of an important family event. In a kind of super glamourous by Mario Testino way.

But if she hadn't already twigged then her christening photos are a reminder to Charlotte that she has a brother on hand to steal the limelight at a moment's notice. His baby sister gave us three images to remember but perhaps the star of the collection is a black and white snap of George with William. Father and son, future kings together doing what they do best - being a little boy and his dad. This is a photo for the history books.

Presumably, Mario Testino took more than the four we saw today. So everything crossed another few sparkling snaps make their way from the royal photo album to the new window on the regal world that is Twitter. Charlotte's christening snaps are in a league of their own and help take royalty, and the way we perceive them, into the 21st century.
