It's always handy to have a go to piece in any wardrobe and for the Queen of Spain there is one coat that means business. Letizia's husband might be the one getting to address important political gatherings around the world but the queen and her favourite coat are always there as he does it. For Felipe's speech to the Senate in Mexico on their second State Visit since his accession, the Spanish queen chose the same outfit she had worn when he addressed the French Senate in Paris on their first official trip just weeks ago. There's a pattern emerging here.

And it's not just the kind of dogtooth on the coat itself. Some psychologists might argue that Letizia had found a uniform for this important event, something that denotes she is on business. As a queen with a reputation for fashion, all eyes are on what Letizia is wearing whenever she steps out. On a day when her husband's words are centre stage, wearing the same smart if slightly underwhelming outfit means that there's no danger of overshadowing him with a killer frock.
But there's another pattern with this coat and that is the amount of times it's taken on and off. The shedding and rewearing of the coat in Mexico wasn't quite so pronounced as it was in France but it still changed position several times throughout the day. It was worn with the same orangey red sleeveless top and skirt combo as in Paris. It's a real coat of state.
The queen stuck with red for the second outfit of day two worn for a visit to the College of Saint Ildefonso and a tour of some very old books. Her red and white print skirt was slim fitting and striking and paired with a dark red shirt looked super chic.
But the hair and make up looked rather severe in the surroundings of a quiet room with little colour in the background.
Overall thought it was another hit for the queen who has had some misses in recent times. Expect one more spectacular from Letizia before she leaves Mexico - the final day of the visit includes a lunch with the country's President, Enrique Pena Nieto, and his glamourous wife, Angelica Rivera. And then the coat of state can be packed away for the next time Felipe talks politics.
