Time to say goodbye - the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh wave farewell to the President and First Lady of Colombia as their State Visit began to draw to an end
The Colombian State Visit to the UK is drawing to an end and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have said farewell to their guests, Juan Manuel Santos and his wife, Maria Clemencia Rodriguez, as they departed Buckingham Palace. The royal part of this visit has come to an end.
The Queen and Prince Philip walked out of the palace with their visitors for brief appearance in front of photographers before waving them off as they began the next part of their journey, to Northern Ireland. There were big smiles and warm goodbyes as this chapter of the trip came to an end - it all began less than forty eight hours earlier with a ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade, carriage processions and a State Banquet.
This is the only incoming State Visit of 2016 after the one planned for the first half of the year, by the King and Queen of Spain, had to be cancelled owing to the ongoing political situation in that country. Now we have to wait until March for another - but #ColombiaStateVisit has been one to remember.
