Royals at Christmas: December 19th, red and green

It's the final countdown to Christmas which means it's time to get really festive and while white, sparkle and spangle might be nice nothing beats a bit of red and green when it comes to celebrating the most wonderful time of the year. Which is why Royals at Christmas is all about rubies and emeralds today - here are five sparkling red and green moments from 2015.

All princesses need a tiara and Sofia of Sweden got one of her very own on her wedding day. The emeralds on top are unusual, unexpected and very, very Christmassy.

Queen Maxima wore a cracking ruby tiara to Sofia's wedding - next to one another they would have been the perfect Christmas colour match

Queen Anne-Marie of Greece had some pretty impressive emeralds on display when she attended her sister, Queen Margrethe's, birthday gala dinner in April

Her niece by marriage, Crown Princess Mary, showed off some pretty rubies at the same event. More colour matching for Christmas from Europe's royals.

The Queen rounded off a year of tiaras with a stunning diamond and emerald creation worn for the CHOGM dinner in Malta in November. Now that is a stocking filler.
