Amadeo and Lili - the parents of Anna Astrid, Europe's newest royal
She has been named after her two grannies but Belgium's newest royal also has a very important link to one of her country's most famous queens. The baby daughter of Prince Amadeo and Princess Lili was brought home from the Brussels hospital where she was born today as her names were announced. The littlest royal on the continent is called Anna Astrid.

Her names were confirmed as her proud parents showed off their little girl to waiting photographers as they made their way out of the Saint Pierre Hospital in Brussels where they had welcomed their daughter at 3.30 on Tuesday morning. The baby is the first great grandchild for King Albert II and Queen Paola.

This little girl gets her first names from Anna Maria Rosboch, mother of Lili, and Princess Astrid of Belgium, mother of Amadeo who was, of course, named after Queen Astrid of the Belgians, mother of King Albert II who died in 1935 when he was just 14 months old. The Swedish born consort had been hugely popular in her lifetime and remains a major figure in Belgian royal history.
