The Crown Princess of Sweden, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar
May 27th 2016, the Royal Palace, Stockholm
A royal christening needs official portraits and now we have those belonging to Prince Oscar Carl Olof of Sweden, Duke of Skane. The little royal was baptised on Friday and two days later his family have shared portraits that will be part of his story for decades to come.

The second littlest prince in Sweden was on top form for his official portraits with not a tear or a snooze in sight. He sits, very bright eyed and taking everything in, on the lap of his mother, Crown Princess Victoria, while his dad, Prince Daniel, and his sister, Princess Estelle, sit alongside them.

The photos have a feel of spring about them, set amongst the white and gold of the Royal Palace with flowers in the background and ornate tapestry chairs for the family to sit on.

There is a relaxed family feel about the photos but also an air of regality and a reminder that these are images for the history books. And the most historic of them all is the portrait of King Carl XVI Gustaf, his heir, Crown Princess Victoria and her two children who follow her, in birth order, in the line of succession.

Prince Oscar's christening was all about the little boy at the centre of a loving family but it also marks another moment in his country's royal history. The official portraits tell that story too.
