End of an historic State Visit to Sweden

The King and Queen of Sweden with the President of Chile at the end of the three day State Visit

This was an historic visit, the first time a Chilean Head of State has paid a State Visit to Sweden. And while we had plenty of pomp and ceremony throughout the three day trip, it ended as all modern State Visits must by getting down to business. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia accompanied their guest to Gothenburg where the innovation and green transport were the order of the day.

The morning got under way with a visit to Astra Zeneca to hear about research and development. The royals and their guests then headed to Lindholmen Science Park on the bus - appropriate really as climate friendly travel was the area up for discussion there.

There was just time for an official lunch before King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia said farewell to Michelle Bachelet who was heading to London for a meeting with Prince Charles, among other things. The carriage rides, the State Dinner, the glittering return reception - it was a very traditional State Visit but with an added layer of history and plenty to talk about afterwards.

You can read all about May's State visits here.
